This is it people. I am putting here on the blog so I have some accountability.
I have been pinning outfits from Pinterest, especially for things that look like items I already own, because this is my big goal.
NO NEW CLOTHES FOR 6 MONTHS.
Yep, that's right. Todd is a bit skeptical that this is possible, but starting last Saturday (my birthday...I had to get the shopping out of my system and what better day than my BIRTHDAY??) was the last day I will buy clothes until August. I've seen other girls do it for a year, but I just don't know if I am ready to commit that long :)
I have seen other girls do this on blogs and that motivated me, among other reasons. I have way too many clothes (my closets and drawers are bursting at the seams). Reason two, I want to spend less money and time on shopping, as I think it is taking time that I should be doing other things. I need to find my fulfillment in other ways. Also, I can see it as a challenge--shopping my closet instead of the stores.
The thing is, I have lots of pretty cute clothes, but I have so many, I don't wear them all. Additionally, because this teaching assignment requires me to dress more professionally, I have less time to wear jeans, which limits my ability to wear some of my clothes.
Anyway, I didn't include accessories in this goal, and I gave myself a monthly budget for those things.
So here we go! I will keep pinning away and scouring my closet and using the clothes I already have and I'll check back in on that goal in August!

Funnies
My class has the reputation of being the "ADHD" room (among other things). This example fits perfectly:
Me: (saying a spelling word for the test)
Kid: Mrs. Thomason, I love you. I'm really sweaty. I get sweaty when I play the Wii at my house.
Me: Oh, um, thanks, okay, it is warm in here!
And later, to the question "What do we need to do before we go to the bathroom?" a student said, "This weekend is my MOM's birthday!" Ay yi yi!
In another instance, one of my students had turned on the CD player, but had hit the radio button instead. He took off his headphones, and said, "Mrs. T, there is a man saying a METEOR hit the EARTH?? Is this a story?" "Nope, that's real." "Oh....what am I listening to?" "It's the radio" "Ohhhhh." A few moments later, "Now, they're talking about sweet 16!" "Alright, buddy, time to turn off the radio!"
And even though I am not yet a mother, I think a teacher comes a close second in having to deal with bodily fluids. In fact, I think I could even argue that it's grosser when it doesn't belong to your someone in your family (although it's still gross). Case in point, today I had to explain why we should walk WAY AROUND those yellow "Wet floor" signs (a 2nd grader had vomited clear down the hallway). Also, one of my students, who is a frequent bathroom-goer came up to me today and said, "Mrs. T, I need to go to the bathroom, but not to pee this time. I have to poop." To which I replied, "Thanks for sharing, GO!"
And yet another student needed to speak to me privately yesterday and sadly whispered, "L**** is picking his nose in PE and eating it. It's so gross." Yes, yes, it is! A kindergarten teacher shared that one of your students had stuck her UGG-like boots into the toilet (which was not completely flushed) and then had come running out saying, "I stepped in a puddle!" Ewww.
Ah, kids.

Selfless
The other day in conversation about life, Todd said, "Well maybe we didn't move to Manhattan for me. Maybe the reason we moved here was for you. So you could have a job you loved."
As much as I don't want happiness at the expense of my husband, it was a selfless thing to say, and it made my heart melt a little.
I am such a lucky woman.
