Yesterday I was listening to a talk by Elder Jensen from a few years back, and among some of the other great things he said, he talking about leaving your history, and how important even the small stories can be to your posterity. Now, I know I'm not writing any prize-winning novels, but I know that I will regret not writing even some of the little things down. There are already things in my past that I regret not writing about, especially because my long-term memory is so terrible.
Anyway, long introduction to this month's update! Here we go!
1. Since the last time I blogged, January and February and most of March have come and gone. January was fine, a little snowy, and included some trips to Wichita for job interviews. My first interview didn't work out, but my second one did! Fifth grade in Derby Schools, which have a great reputation, plus they are a Mac district :) I am excited for a change, but also a little apprehensive about 5th grade hormones!
2. February we can forget. It's unfortunate, because Todd and I both have birthdays, plus Valentine's Day, right? Nope. February is cold and miserable, I always get sick, birthdays are marred by the fact we have to be apart so much. Anyway, just glad February is over!
3. March! Love March...it brings the promise of spring, and spring break! Spring break was great because my sister came, and we ate junk food, saw a baseball game, shopped in KC, Lawrence, and Manhattan, watched movies, and visited Milford Nature Center. It was such a fun time, I'm so glad someone gets tax money back and can come visit me ;)
4. I just got back from Wichita after spending the 2nd half of my spring break there. It was nice to see Todd after he had work, get some work done (not as much as I wanted, but it is called spring BREAK), see my friend Danielle, and do some apartment hunting. Looking for apartments is always stressful, but we found some good options.
We are trying to continue to save some money. If this baby battle gets expensive, we are going to need to save, and if we do decide to stay in Wichita, we will eventually want to buy a home. The house thing is DEFINITELY several years away, but with loans and babies, it all adds up. Todd is such a great long-term thinker, whereas me...not so much. In a talk we heard last Sunday, someone brought up a thought from a general conference many years ago that mentioned that young people today want the lifestyle their parents worked years for...I have to keep reminding myself that I can't compare our circumstances, our pace, our situation, to someone else's. If they can afford a house, then that's awesome! We are not there yet, and that's awesome. We've made some great memories even in the smallest of our apartments, and I look forward to creating some more. Especially if that apartment has a washer and a dryer :)
5. I can't believe school will be over in 9 weeks! It's getting to be that busy time of year: field trips, permission forms, special events, state testing, etc etc. It seems like a sprint to the end, but a fun one! I am not thinking too much about the end, as I hate leaving my wonderful colleagues, who have really become the greatest of friends out here. Fortunately, many of them have ties to Wichita, so we will still get together :)
6. Todd is liking his job, and I'm so happy. It makes this separation a little bit better, knowing that he is being taken care of in Wichita. His roommate situation has worked out great, and his roomie doesn't mind me hanging out on the occasional weekend. However, we will still be incredibly grateful when this separation is over. Especially since each of us has become a big bed hog since we don't have to share during the week! It's so annoying to have to drive away from your husband after spending the weekend together. However, I am grateful even for those weekends, as I work in a building full of women whose husbands leaves them for months at a time, with only a Skype call every once in a while. Ahh, that would be so hard!
And now, maybe it won't be another two months before I blog again!
