For me, San Pedro wasn´t the best experience...if anything it was a nice little peek into a world where personal privacy and ahem...a little tact for others preferences and feelings...mean very little. Personal privacy, as in please, people, use a BATHROOM and not the wall along the road...or the corner where traffic is. Tact, as in, no we don´t want to hear all about your children when you are completely drunk. I´m sure your wife loves that you tell strangers all about your family while completely inebriated. And please, you have a bed...maybe you could make it there before you completely pass out in the middle of the street.
My very last experience on the main road in San Pedro was unfortunately close to a very scary fight, which involved a crazy Israeli, an angry patriotic Guatemalan, and a glass bottle. Said glass bottle crashed onto the street, along with the Israeli, who got pummeled until he gave up. Someone ran to grab a couple lengths of rope, and the townspeople helped tie the guy´s arms and legs until the police got there. Crazy. Crazy. And there were POOLS of blood. It was very disturbing.
The one redeeming thing was our family. Said family had a very unprivate bathroom but they were very kind to us.
Here´s pictures of the church in Santiago and the elders. You might be able to see the barbed wire below. The elders had to let us out because they lock the gates during the block so kids don´t come in and play on the basketball court outside and make a ruckus. We left early because we couldn´t understand a thing...the church here speaks Tzutuhil, their Mayan language.

I love hearing about your adventures. Brayden keeps asking when you're coming back. Know you are missed.
